Children and teenagers struggle with issues just as adults do and sometimes even more. Their stressors may seem insignificant to us as adults. These problems should not be minimized, as they are often extremely troubling to the child or teenager. I have worked with this population in a variety of settings and have successfully resolved issues involving low self esteem, depression, self mutilation, bullying, parental divorce, school related problems, athletics and sports performance, as well as other age expected problems. I work hard to establish trust and rapport with this age group, as I know that this is critical in order to help problem solve.
Speaking with a therapist can help an adolescent or child to work through issues with a person who is objective, unbiased, and non-threatening. Therapy provides a safe place to talk about situations that otherwise might be intimidating to discuss. The hope is that the child is able to take from the therapeutic situation and apply newly learned coping skills to their relationships with others in daily life.
As a parent, it is natural to worry about our children. We want them to be happy and healthy. But, sometimes there are situations that we cannot fix for our children by ourselves. Seeking help at these times is the best thing that you can do for your teenager or child. Relying on a qualified therapist that you can trust will ease your own anxiety and help your child to navigate their way through difficult situations.
